Starteam Vs ClearCase
« on: April 27, 2006, 09:38:33 AM »
Hi guys,

I got a good tuff job. I joined recently our company which is having both starteam and clearcase. Both installed and working. But most of the users say nealy 95% are using starteam. They are not at all intersted in clearcase. But the client wants to use clearcase. Now i should educate and motivate the users to use clearcase.

Can any one provide the advantages and disadvantages of both Clearcase and starteam.
Any suggestions on encouraging of using clearcase. Any documents or manauls on this.

Also any PPTs on Clearcase and Starteam for beginners availble?

Advantages of ClearCase to Starteam:

1. ClearCase is very easy and simple to use within Rational Unified Process (RUP) projects. The standard RUP documentation uses ClearCase as default Configuration Management tool. To use Starteam, you have to modify a lot of RUP documenation for Configuration Management.

2. Creating a baseline is easier to do in ClearCase

In spite of this, Starteam is in my opinion a much better Configuration Management tool. CM managers I know and working with both, prefer Starteam.
