stcmd fails to start
« on: April 01, 2005, 01:17:44 AM »
When I attempt to run stcmd from the command line, I get an error dialog with title "init Error" and text "Unable to load VM". When I dismiss this dialog, another dialog appears with title "GetLastError" and text "The specified module could not be found." Finally, Cygwin (or Command Shell) displays "A dynamic link library (DLL) initialization routine failed."

I'm using StarTeam 5.2 on Windows XP. I have the Java runtime installed using the latest from Sun: "jre-1_5_0_02-windows-i586-p-iftw.exe".

I already tried finding this on the Google and Borland website, but had no luck, so I'm hoping someone here might know what's going on.

Any help would be appreciated.

Tommie

Since the Microsoft Java Virtual Machine went beyond SUN?s Java specifications (which is why SUN sued Microsoft), it could very well be that StarTeam version 5.2 uses features not available in SUN?s Java VM. I would install Microsoft?s version to solve your issue.

You can download the MS Java VM here http://www.softwarepatch.com/windows/javavm.html

Thanks for your help.

It never fails though... After I posted this message yesterday, I decided to try one more thing... I uninstalled StarTeam client and reinstalled, and voila: stcmd started working again.

But you made an interesting point about the VM... StarTeam 5.2 did seem to complain during the pre-install checks, and it wanted to install 1.3 of Sun's Java VM, but I told it not to do that.
